ABSTRACT
This study was conducted to evaluate nutrition knowledge and nutrition education intervention among primary school pupils aged 6 to 10 years. A total of 250 primary school pupils from Ilishan-Remo participated in this study using a multistage sampling method technique to select the sample size. A structured questionnaire divided into two sections socio-demographic and nutrition knowledge was administered to the children and six nutrition education classes was held for the children using a developed nutrition education material “Nestle Healthy Kids Children Manual”. Data generated was analysed using statistical package for social sciences version 20.0 for descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, and inferential statistics (chi-square test) for the association between variables. T-test was used to test the difference between pre and post-nutritional knowledge of the pupils. The study revealed that more than half of the pupils (54.4%) were females and (45.6%) were males. Pre and post-test nutritional knowledge were 16.4% and 54.8% respectively, while there was a significant difference between pre and post-nutritional knowledge (15.79±4.79) and (21.62±5.83) at P≤0.05. Based on the findings, the study showed that a good nutrition education program has positive impact on nutrition knowledge and healthy eating habit among primary school pupils, which would provide good health throughout their lives.
